What happens when I promise to do something for a friend and forget? I say I'm sorry and then ask what can I do to make it up. In this case (the individual asked to remain anonymous so I'll call them CarrieHead) CarrieHead requested that I accompany them to a showing of Sex and the City. As the saying goes "Payback is hell".

Never a fan of the show I found the movie to be equally uninteresting. By all means if you were a fan of the show you'll love the film. Otherwise steer clear. I was hoping to at least enjoy the film as a comedy but I found all the jokes to be so tedious that I could only shrug my shoulders.

To the movie's credit the opening titles did help bring me up to speed on who all the characters were. Unfortunately for the rest of the movie I found myself bored senseless because these individuals were so painfully myopic in their outlook on life all they could do was focus on their next pair of shoes. - cf

I like the Stones. I love Martin Scorsese. His documentation of The Band's final concert with The Last Waltz is monumental. When news circulated that Scorsese had assembled a list of who's who in cinematographers to capture a Rolling Stones live show I was intrigued. I just recently caught up with the film now that it is out on DVD and was disappointed. The camera work was fine but what was lacking was any real behind-the-scenes footage. Scorsese makes an attempt to evoke drama by fussing about the lighting and the fact that the band won't reveal their setlist. Unfortunately for me the antics only made Scorsese appear as old and outmoded as the mostly lackluster band then seemed for the next hour and a half. Musically the Stones seem still able to go through the motions but the energy is clearly lacking. Bringing a bit of much needed dose of vim & vigor to the show was Jack White (of The White Stripes) who performed a duet with Mick Jagger of Loving Cup. I would recommend this film only for die-hard Stones fanatics. - cf

Clone Yawn

I first heard of this movie when I took my 5 year old son to see Speed Racer earlier this summer. Five seconds into the preview my son grabbed my arm and inquired if I would take him to see this movie. Giddy at having my son be as excited to see a Star Wars movie as I was when I was his age I immediately responded - "You bet!".

This movie is nothing more than a 30 minute cartoon strectched into 90 minutes. The movie consists of 4 pages of dialogue (granted it was better than most of what Lucas came up with for the newer prequel trilogy). Between these brief bits of narrative we have way, way too many scenes of droids fighting. After the first 2 or 3 droid battle scenes they all ran together for me. I had hopes this was going to be redeemed with a lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and a Sith chic who clearly had issues but no such luck. Their battle was not only rushed but ended extremely unsatisfactorily.

So unless you really want to throw $8 away on some ultimately disappointing nostalgia I suggest staying away. - cf
