University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina (UHSEC) could be the next great teacher. With a real focus on patient and family-centered care, UHSEC is progressively heading in a direction where patients are fully engaged in their individual care – from the moment they step on any of the Systems’ campuses.
Why is this so outstanding?
For one, an approach that truly puts the patient and family first, not only in theory, but in actual practice is impressive and somewhat unique in the healthcare arena. This approach also creates a paradigm shift in thinking which leads to optimal levels of care, increased transparency and effective communication between physicians, patients and staff.
With healthcare issues at the forefront and so many concerns about the quality of care provided and how the patients are treated, UHSEC is ahead of the curve.
We salute University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina!
JGI recently signed on with Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. (CHPC) to produce an overview presentation that will be used to educate viewers about CHPC and its commitment to support families and provide quality and compassionate care to patients.
In 1980, the hospice concept was introduced to a group in Caldwell County. Two years later, Caldwell Hospice served its first patient. Today CHPC cares for more than 300 patients in the home and on-site through a variety of care teams.
And the story of hope continues – this Spring an additional 12-bed patient care unit will open, enabling more families throughout Caldwell and surrounding counties to be served.
We look forward to working with their dedicated staff and producing a piece that will effectively highlight the vital work that CHPC does with patients who are terminally ill and how they help families dealing with grief.
The Visiting Writers Series (VWS) of Lenoir-Rhyne University has been guided by Dr. Rand Brandes, Director and Martin Luther Stevens Professor of English, for many years. Under his guidance, the Series has grown and introduced many well-known writers, novelists and poets to the Hickory community and beyond.
VWS holds a firm belief that authors sharing their stories/experiences “In Their Own Words” leads to a better understanding of life and encourages the love of reading.
In keeping with that forward-thinking, JGI has produced the VWS Podcast Series. Podcasts feature Dr. Brandes and writers having a candid, colorful conversation about their writing.
To subscribe to the podcast visit iTunes and search for In Their Own Words. For more information on the Visiting Writers Series please visit http://visitingwriters.lr.edu/.
Charlotte Country Day has a new Head of School and we had the wonderful opportunity to meet him during a recent filming session.
Mr. Reed comes to CCDS from Houston and his passion for education and seeing students mature and grow is obvious upon first encounter!
We have come to know Country Day and the caring staff over the years and have always applauded their efforts to prepare students for success in all aspects of their lives.

These are terms that students learn early at Wake Forest University’s School of Law. As part of orientation, students are offered an opportunity to participate in community service by volunteering at a local Habitat building site.
This year’s class worked at a site approximately three miles from campus. JGI captured footage of students, faculty and staff working together to make the dreams of local families come true for affordable, decent housing.
Instilling the importance of giving back at the start of student’s law careers is something the School feels strongly about and has since the project’s inception nine years ago.
We salute WFU’s School of Law!
JGI is happy to partner again with Stanly Regional Medical Center (SRMC) to produce a presentation for the Women’s Center. The DVD will highlight SRMC’s approach to patient preparation and care through emphasis on labor, delivery, and newborn care; as well as featuring footage of the nursery and inspired suites.
Through the use of fluid imagery , the Women’s Center will be presented as the maternity place of choice.
The School of Law at Wake Forest University is committed to preparing its students and to being abreast of issues having a direct baring on the judicial system. As part of that commitment, the School commissioned JGI to interview professors as part of a ‘Meet the Press’ forum to discuss U.S. Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor.
Ron Wright (Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs), Sid Shapiro (Associate Dean for Research and Development and University Distinguished Chair in Law) and Suzanne Reynolds (who ran for the N.C. Supreme Court last year) made up the distinguished panel.
Professors weighed in my responding to various questions about Sotomajor. These interviews can be seen on the School’s website (http://www.law.wfu.edu) and will be updated as relevant issues arise.
